Schon am roten Teppich erklärt Playboy und Partykönig Rolf Eden der Bild, dass er seit 10 Jahren kommt, weil es die glamouröseste Veranstaltung im ganzen Jahr in ganz Berlin sei. Auch er nennt die Veranstaltung noch immer in einem Atemzug mit der Berlinale, die sich schon seit Jahren ausdrücklich von dem Event distanziert. Festivaldirektor Dieter Kosslick wirft der Veranstaltung vor, sich den Ruf durch die &lt;b&gt;Vortäuschung&lt;/b&gt;, Teil der Filmfestspiele zu sein, erschlichen zu haben. Auch unterstellt er dem Veranstalter fehlende &lt;b&gt;Transparenz &lt;/b&gt;im Umgang mit den Spendengeldern. Der Begründer der Initiative Cinema for Peace erklärt sich die Vorwürfe mit Neid auf den Erfolg der Gala. Im Gegenzug, lanciert er, dass Dieter Kosslick sich für die gute Sache verweigere, weil er einen Phototermin mit Angela &lt;b&gt;Merkel &lt;/b&gt;und Sean Penn für das Charity Projekt &lt;i&gt;J/P Haitian Relief Organization&lt;/i&gt; ablehne. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: Georgia,&amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,serif; text-align: justify;"&gt;Der streitbare Jaka Bizilj, der sich als einer der weltweit größten Konzertveranstalter einen Namen machte, veranstaltet die Benefizgala in diesem Jahr zum 10. Mal. Alle Jahre wieder schmückt er seine Veranstaltung „Cinema for Peace“ mit öffentlichkeitswirksamen Protagonisten, besonders der Hollywood-Prominenz, im Namen der guten Tat. Dem Begründer der Friedens-Initiative ist die &lt;b&gt;Verpackung &lt;/b&gt;wichtig, denn nur die, so glaubt er, ermöglicht eine entsprechende Aufmerksamkeit für die eigentlich im Fokus stehenden humanitären Projekte und gesellschaftskritischen Filme. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: Georgia,&amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,serif; text-align: justify;"&gt;Die &lt;b&gt;Viereinhalbstundengala &lt;/b&gt;besteht aus Prominenz, &lt;b&gt;Auktionen&lt;/b&gt;, &lt;b&gt;Preisverleihungen&lt;/b&gt;, zwei Music-Acts und "Romanescosalat an Fichtenpuder“, „Lamm, das sich in einem Petersiliensturm verliert“ und einer „Schokolade, die sich in eine Zuckerrübe verliebt“. Die Verpackung soll verführen und das Geld locker machen. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: Georgia,&amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,serif; text-align: justify;"&gt;Doch die Spenden gehen nur mäßig ein. Immer wieder zischt der Veranstalter in den Saal und bittet um Ruhe und Respekt für Redner und die Auktionen. 21 Möglichkeiten - auf einer neben der Bühne hängenden Leinwand angeboten - gibt es, Geld für einen guten Zweck zu investieren. Placido Domingo biete ein Dinner an. Elton John will einen Spender mit zur &lt;b&gt;Oscarverleihung &lt;/b&gt;nehmen. Domingos Angebot wird bis 22.30 Uhr für 7.000 Euro ersteigert. Elton John erhält das höchste Gebot des Abends mit &lt;b&gt;17.500 Euro.&lt;/b&gt; Humanitäre Projekte, wie die &lt;b&gt;Genocide Film Library Bosnia&lt;/b&gt; erhalten ganze &lt;b&gt;2.250 Euro&lt;/b&gt;. Schnell wird klar, hier spendet niemand gemäß dem Gesetz „Reichtum verflichtet“ einzig für den guten Zweck. Die Gebote sind oft wertvolle &lt;b&gt;Geldanlagen oder Trophäen&lt;/b&gt;, die kein wirkliches Opfer verlangen, wie es all diejenigen bringen oder erbrachten, die an diesem Abend ihre humanitären Projekte oder Filme vorstellen. Das Elend der Welt flimmert an diesem Abend unentwegt in gleichbleibend verstörenden Bildern und Geschichten über die Leinwand. Doch im Saal bleibt das Gros gut gelaunt und genießt das &lt;b&gt;Socializing &lt;/b&gt;mit Freunden und Bekannten und das erhebende Gefühl für den guten Zweck vom Michelin-Stern-Koch aus der Region beköstigt zu werden und selbstlos Geld für feilgebotene Beutestücke, zu opfern. Ein postmodernes Konzept des &lt;b&gt;Ablasshandels&lt;/b&gt;. Die wirklichen Opfer bringen hier andere. Doch ohne das Geld der geladenen Gäste geht es nicht, das weiß hier auch jeder. Also spielt jeder mit. Nur, das Geld sitzt am Valentinsabend nicht so locker, wie erhofft. Enttäuschung beim Veranstalter, der einige Auktionen offen lassen muss, weil niemand mitbietet. In einer Auktion wird auf eine Rolle im Film „The Song of Names“ - der mit Anthony Hopkins und  Dustin Hoffman in Halle an der Saale gedreht werden soll, geboten, in einer anderen auf  Portraitaufnahmen mit Fashionfotograf Michel Comte.&lt;br /&gt;Hin und wieder kommt es zu Vewirrungen, weil unerwartet Sponsoren die Bühne betreten und die Auktionen unterbrechen oder weil scheinbar verkehrte Auktionsartikel auf die Bühne getragen werden. Wie viel für Penns Stiftung zusammen kam, wird am Ende nicht mehr  bekannt gegeben, nur, dass bereits am Nachmittag ein Opel (einer der  Sponsoren des Abends), 15 Computer und Care-Pakete gegen Cholera gespendet  wurden. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: Georgia,&amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,serif; text-align: justify;"&gt;Die Preisverleihungen für den &lt;b&gt;wertvollsten Film&lt;/b&gt; und die bedeutendste Dokumentation des Jahres gehen im überfrachteten Abend, der Fülle der eilig vorgestellten Projekte, den Auktionen und den Promi- und Sponsoreninszenierungen fast unter.&amp;nbsp; Natürlich werden die Idealisten beklatscht und für ihren Einsatz gelobt und bejubelt.&lt;span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 12pt;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;Es sind bizarre Momente, die zum Teil makaber wirken. Besonders deutlich wird das nach der Dankesrede Frank Piasecki Poulsens, der für seinen Film &lt;i&gt;Blood In The Mobile&lt;/i&gt; mit dem Preis für Gerechtigkeit ausgezeichnet wurde. Er spricht sich gegen Gier und für weltweit faire Löhne aus.&amp;nbsp; Doch Opel-Vizepräsident &lt;b&gt;Alain Visser&lt;/b&gt;, der nach ihm auf die Bühne kommt und den Preis für Umweltschutz und Nachhaltigkeit verleihen soll, nutzt seine Gesprächszeit ungeachtet der Vorrede ersteinmal ausgiebig zur Imagepflege Opels und bewirbt die fortschrittlichen Modelle. Der von Opel Project Earth verliehene International Green Film Award verliert sich im Absatz steigernden &lt;b&gt;Product Placement &lt;/b&gt;der Spritsparmodelle. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: Georgia,&amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,serif; text-align: justify;"&gt;Zum Abschluss beschwören noch einmal ein paar Idealisten das Publikum. Mit dem Joe Cocker Cover &lt;i&gt;With a little help from my friends&lt;/i&gt; spielen Silly mit Jan Josef Liefers an der Gitarre und Reamon eine kraftvolle Hymne auf die &lt;b&gt;Solidarität&lt;/b&gt;. Sean Penn hatte sich den Titel für den Abend gewünscht. Plays Itself&lt;/i&gt;. Überhaupt gab es in diesem Jahr einen bemerkenswerten Zuwachs an Zuschauerzahlen. Im 3. Jahr scheint die Filmreihe ihr festes Publikum gefunden zu haben.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Mit einer geschickten Filmauswahl zeigte Kurator Hannes Brühwiler 2011 eine kluge Mischung von Independentproduktionen, die sich häufig zwischen Dokumentation und Fiktion, zwischen &lt;b&gt;Fake und Reality&lt;/b&gt; bewegten. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Am radikalsten kokettierte vielleicht &lt;b&gt;Casey Afflecks und Joaquin Phoenix&lt;/b&gt;’ Mockumentary &lt;i&gt;&lt;b&gt;I’m Still Here&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt; mit diesem schmalen Grat. Leslie Felperin (Variety) nannte es „&lt;b&gt;die wohl längste und öffentlichste Art-Performance eines Prominenten, die es je gab&lt;/b&gt;.“ Als Joaquin Phoenix 2008 nach Beendigung des Filmes Two Lovers das Aus seiner Schauspielkarriere bekannt gab, um eine &lt;b&gt;Hip-Hop-Karriere&lt;/b&gt; zu starten, war niemand sicher, wie ernst seine Absichten waren. Schon vor ihm hatten Schauspieler, wie Mickey Rourke, das schauspielerische Terrain verlassen, um in einer zweiten Karriere – in diesem Fall eine &lt;b&gt;Boxkarriere &lt;/b&gt;– ihrem eigentlichen Ich zu folgen. Bei Phoenix glaubten viele an einen &lt;b&gt;publicityträchtigen Schwindel&lt;/b&gt;. Skeptische Reporter, die sein Vorhaben versuchten als Scherz zu entlarven, wurden mit Fragen, wie: „Wollen Sie damit sagen, mein Leben sei ein Witz?“, verunsichert. Perfekt gekontert! Bizarre Live-Auftritte bei &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBoGNBSLYRY%29"&gt;David Letterman&lt;/a&gt; oder in Night-Clubs wie dem &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F_Ikksg40U&amp;amp;feature=related"&gt;Lavo&lt;/a&gt; machten schließlich allen glauben, Phoenix stecke vielleicht tatsächlich in einer &lt;b&gt;Identitätskrise&lt;/b&gt;. Von einem Schwindel keine Spur mehr. Und doch war es wohl beides, ein abgekartetes Spiel und ein bisschen Joaquin Phoenix, „as a product of his ambition“, wie es ein unbekannter vlogger im Film nennt. „&lt;b&gt;Elliptisch&lt;/b&gt;“ sei die Beziehung zwischen Wirklichkeit und Fabelei im Film, hätte Casey Affleck in Venedig behauptet, berichtet Felperin. Sind &lt;b&gt;P. Diddy, Ben Stiller &lt;/b&gt;oder Letterman sogar Komplizen in diesem Spiel? Korines Zynismus ist kaum zu überbieten.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Im ferngesteuerten Medienzirkus, in dem &lt;b&gt;Glaubwürdigkeit &lt;/b&gt;von Unglaubwürdigkeit kaum zu unterscheiden ist, sucht das amerikanische Independentkino offenbar nach Wegen, persönliche Wahrheiten sichtbar zu machen. Vielleicht, um zu berühren oder um ein bisschen Licht in unsere &lt;b&gt;Höhle voller Schatten&lt;/b&gt; zu werfen. Einige Filmemacher bedienen sich dabei klassischer Methoden, während andere die Welt zum Narren halten, um ihnen im Grotesken den Spiegel zu zeigen. Der neue Weg versprach Selbstbestimmung und eine Unabhängigkeit, frei von allen Studiozwängen. Dafür wurden auch finanzielle Einbußen in Kauf genommen. Kompromisslos Geschichten nach eigenen, individuellen Vorstellungen und Maßgaben zu erzählen, war ausdrücklicher Wille und oberste Priorität. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:&amp;quot;;" &gt;Im Unterschied zur traditionellen Einwegunterhaltung der Major Film Studios standen hier gewöhnliche Menschen, nicht gesellschaftsfähige Außenseiter, soziale Randgruppen oder Bohemiens und ihre Lebenswelten im Fokus. Darunter Aaron Katz, das „enfant terrible“ Harmony Korine, Joe Swanberg oder die Safdie Brüder. Und auch das Genre entwickelte sich weiter und brachte Bewegungen wie das &lt;b style=""&gt;Mumblecore &lt;/b&gt;hervor. Jahr in Folge nach Berlin. &lt;span style=""&gt; &lt;/span&gt;Viel versprechend startet gleich der erste Tag im neuen Jahr mit einer Regie-Legende. Francis Ford Coppola eröffnet &lt;i style=""&gt;unknown pleasures&lt;b style=""&gt; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt;mit seinem jüngsten Film &lt;b style=""&gt;„&lt;a href="http://www.tetro.com/"&gt;Tetro&lt;/a&gt;“&lt;/b&gt;. Coppola, dessen gesamte Karriere vom Versuch gekennzeichnet war, „Unabhängigkeit zu erlangen, von Geldgebern wie von künstlerischen Vorgaben“ (Hannes Brühwiler), steht programmatisch für die hier ausgewählten Filme. Bekannt für seine albtraumartige Bildersprache schuf der oft als &lt;i style=""&gt;enfant terrible“ &lt;/i&gt;bezeichnete Filmemacher und Autor Harmony Korine mit seinem neuen Film einen Trash-Horror aus Nashville/Tennessee, der an die Fotografien &lt;a href="http://www.egglestontrust.com/"&gt;William Egglestons &lt;/a&gt;oder dessen Videos aus den 70-er Jahren &lt;b style=""&gt;„&lt;/b&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.egglestontrust.com/"&gt;Stranded in Canton&lt;/a&gt;&lt;b style=""&gt;“&lt;/b&gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;erinnert. Und doch ringt Korine seinen derangierten Misanthropen Augenblicke der tiefen Berührung und bizarrer Poesie ab. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;"&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:&amp;quot;;" &gt;Eine postapokalyptische Freakshow, deren Vorbild auch bei dem frühen John Waters zu finden ist. remarked the connection between Christian Petzold’s contribution in competition &lt;i&gt;“Jerichow”&lt;/i&gt; and James M. Caines &lt;i&gt;“The Postman always rings twice”&lt;/i&gt;. And I feel obliged to join them in their observations.  &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 85%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;It was through a reading a newspaper story whilst directing his former film &lt;i&gt;“Yella”,&lt;/i&gt;  that Petzold got the idea for his “&lt;i&gt;Jerichow”&lt;/i&gt; screenplay, which focuses on Germany’s presence, where wage labour is no longer available or has reached a destructive exploitative status. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 85%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;Ali, a half bald and slightly overweight self-made man is a “don’t trust anybody”. His paranoid character is confined to control anyone and anything at any time – especially his wife or his employees. The German with Turkish roots has built up his own business running takeaway street stands with Asian and Turkish food around Jerichow, a small town in between the Saxon’s no man’s land. Accidently one night he meets Thomas, a reticent and silent ex-soldier who has furnished himself impromptu in his late mother’s house. After the army dishonourably dismissed him he worked on a cucumber farm transitionally, as a so called &lt;i&gt;cucumber - flyer&lt;/i&gt;. Lying hidden in the green harvest with a few other labourers they reap cucumbers all day long riding up and down the field for only a few Euros. Thomas appears to have the demeanour of a person that Ali could possibly begin to trust. But by offering him a job in his company Ali unwittingly grants Thomas admission into his life and thereby Laura’s, Ali’s wife. Bound together through a chain of pendency and obsession they get tangled up in their own intricately woven spider web of lies, passion and desperation. They are prisoners trying to escape their maze to build up a nest. Christian Petzold already considered as one of the refined directors of northern &lt;st1:place st="on"&gt;Europe&lt;/st1:place&gt; calls it “&lt;i&gt;Homeland-Building”&lt;/i&gt;. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 85%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;Nastily that &lt;i&gt;Homeland-Building &lt;/i&gt;at least for Laura - a real ex-prisoner, desperately lost in debts - seems cruelly linked to money, which results in her having to surrender her dreams and settle for a life with Ali. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 85%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;Petzold believes MONEY to be the films invisible protagonist though unwillingly, he claims in an interview. “I had the feeling that the money has slowly crept into the film, through the pictures and between the characters.” Besides the fact that &lt;i&gt;Jerichow&lt;/i&gt; tells a story about betraying - not only others but also yourself – it is a film about surrender while contemporarily trying not to give up. Therefore his blues portray a picture of an almost drowning society with only a few sparks of hope, where life is asking for continual sacrifices. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 85%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: &amp;quot;; &lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;With their ability to perceive what rules and moves the word, film and  art are the seismographs of nowadays culture. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;It's their unique strength, which director Martin Scorcese once so  clearly postulated, that has the power to change things. And if they  won't change instantly they will at least put magnifying glasses upon  our contemporary living. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Obviously Venice is following this principle this year, claiming a  mission and taking on a political duty. The message: Watch out and  recognise your global responsibility! &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Reflecting upon humanity in the 3rd millennium the &lt;a href="http://www.labiennale.org/it/cinema/"&gt;Mostra  Internazionale del Cinema&lt;/a&gt; screens a crucial yet unpleasant and  disgusting image of nowadays, pointing out such a preposterous society  by screening what is happening and questioning &lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;What comes next&lt;/i&gt;? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Wistful, provocative and sarcastic stories are told in a majority of all  contributions assembled from twelve different countries. Every section -  from &lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;Competition &lt;/i&gt;&lt;span class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;&lt;span class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;till &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;&lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;Eventi Collaterali&lt;/i&gt; or Specials &lt;/i&gt;&lt;span class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;like&lt;/span&gt; &lt;i&gt;Questi  Fantasmi &lt;/i&gt;- pictures a disgraceful face of greed, a ferocis and hungry  Entertainment Media - a savage and humiliating Industry - or a burdened  society drenched in melancholy. Formerly a dream factory, cinema has  become a sort of lens zooming in where it hurts, rubbing salt into  wounds. Cinema gives birth to a NEW REALISM. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;A big part of the selected films declares worries about our next  generation. Abandoned and almost sacrificed, children populate films  like KABULI KID, LOS HEREDEROS by Eugenio Polgovsky, UNA SEMANA SOLOS by Celina Murga or VOY A EXPLOTAR by Gerardo Naranjo. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Other than that films like VEGAS - BASED ON A TRUE STORY by Amir  Nadiri, JERICHOW /by Christian Petzold, LA FABBRICA DEI// TEDESCHI by  Mimmo Calopresti or&lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt; THYSSENKRUPP BLUES&lt;/i&gt; by Pietro Balla demonstrate in  various shades a frantic society and their desperate struggle to earn a  living in a world where no job with sufficient payment is available  anymore. Thus leaving them forced to surrender and sell their dreams and  compromise their values. Main question: How to survive when everything  is falling apart? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The cynical Malaysian film &lt;i class="moz-txt-slash"&gt;Sell out &lt;/i&gt;by Yeo Joonhan sums it up  perfectly: in this present age dreams are butchered for practical or  profit-making reasons. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Adrian Sitaru, a promising Romanian film director who debuted this year  with his feature film /ESCUIT SPORTIV (Hooked) at the &lt;i&gt;Giornate degli  Autori&lt;/i&gt; section put it into his own words: " (...) it seems to me that  we are the only species that can destroy itself with pleasure." &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Although the striking message of this festival seems a bit educational  and instructive sometimes, the world seems to get united  cinematographically. &lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: &amp;quot;; Moretti come al solito fa di tutto per esibirsi davanti alle telecamere: officia una carità invadente prendendosi cura con la massima attenzione plateale di tutti i suoi colleghi vicini! Esempi: Mentre Grimaldi cerca di rispondere alle domande, Moretti interrompe e mesce l’acqua nei bicchieri degli altri dopo di che ammicca qualche amicone in pubblico, dopo di che si alza in piedi per togliersi la giacca. E quando la piccola stellina Blu Yoshimi racconta come si è preparata per il film lodando il favoloso e gentilissimo Moretti, lui sfrutta il momento per un’altra scena da fotografare: si alza e la bacia dimostrativamente in testa. Non è finito qui! Quando tocca a Valeria Golino di rispondere a qualche domanda, Moretti acchiappa la sua telecamera ed inizia a girare i colleghi. MO’ BASTA…, eh! Che guitto!&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 78%;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Una panchina come l’ombelico del mondo&lt;/b&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 78%;"&gt;L’estate a Roccamare diventa la più grande sfida per la famiglia Paladini. Tutto esce dai binari della “normalità” quando la madre muore all’improvviso. Da un momento all’altro ogni cosa cambia. Da qui in avanti toccherà a Pietro occuparsi della figlia. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 78%;"&gt;Persi nell’ombra della vicenda, i due provano ad arrendersi al destino cercando silenziosamente di tornare sulla strada della normalità. Pietro pero è posseduto dalla paura di perdere anche la figlia e non la molla più. Invece di tornare in ufficio si arresta su una panchina davanti alla sua scuola. Non si muove finché non esce e, il tutto, per tre o quattro mesi! Il prato e la panchina come cappella di compianto. Qui il tempo è come ritardato e segue un ritmo rallentato. Sbattuto fuori da un mondo preordinato e conosciuto, il protagonista si ritrova rinchiuso in un universo tutto nuovo. In maniera abbastanza “contemplativa”, il padre smonta la precedente esistenza, venendo a conoscenza per la prima volta di cose mai sapute su Lara e la figlia. Pian piano riconquista vita e gioia. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 78%;"&gt;Disgraziatamente pero il film &lt;a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0929412/maindetails" style="color: red;" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;span lang="IT" style="text-transform: uppercase;"&gt;CAOS CALMO&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="color: red;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;rispetto al libro di Sandro Veronesi (vincitore del premio strega 2006)  non funziona - soprattutto per vacuità presuntuosa del regista e probabilmente anche degli sceneggiatori (Moretti, Paolucci, Piccolo). Nonostante il cast sia composto da attori di discreta fama– come già fatto notare – la maggior parte delle figure rimane entro i confini di un bozzettismo vuoto, poco elaborato e men che meno raffinato. Li si sacrifica per mettere in scena momenti esilaranti, cosa che vale per tutto il film, raccontato in una maniera negligente e sciatta. Peratanto il film si frammenta in tante piccole storie meno profonde anche se talvolta divertenti. Imperdonabile è soprattutto la scialba messinscena della morte di Lara, sulla quale tutte le vicende si appoggiano. Altrettanto vale per una conclusione troppo forzata e poco raffinata, quasi tirata via. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 78%;"&gt;In sintesi, quel che rimane è il cameo di Roman Polanski, che appare in una scena assolutamente fuori da ogni nesso, come anche la leziosa e gonfiata scena del sesso. A questo riguardo, la stampa si è già espressa negativamente anche qui a Berlino.  Purtroppo nulla funziona a causa della sciatta narrazione della storia e delle figure. Grimaldi sacrifica la disperazione di Pietro e la sua voglia di liberarsi dalla vita precedente, per liberare gli italiani dai vincoli della loro bigotteria cattolica. Innumerable children suffer any kind of violence like war, rage, abuse or abandonment while grown-ups are painfully tormented by repression, punishment or barbaric torture. And such disturbing stories are completed by the experience of what one might call the everyday torture of a film critic, sitting in an overcrowded cinema closely packed with hundreds of colleagues in a screening starting way too early in the morning. Some journalists are heavily breathing or snoring peacefully while others cough and sneeze straight to one’s neck – especially now since the influenza virus has infected everybody. The most terrible thing, however, is being trapped in a tier in a darksome cinema among all of them when suddenly out of nowhere some unpleasant odour billows through the tiers – wafting like an invisible mist through the seats trying to grab attention while displacing the film for an instant. Disturbing and annoying! Several years of research and travelling followed and forced him to write a script entitled “Gardens of the Night”. Another 17 years were needed to get the film funded. The process of finding money allowed Harris to work on the script and refining it as he mentions at the press conference. It was sadly not enough time to give this one its final touch. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;8 year old Leslie (Simpkins) got abducted by Alex (&lt;st1:city&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;Arnold&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:city&gt;), the typical cliché of a paedophiliac psycho – a heavily breathing and corpulent pale-face with that typical sweet-talking softness of a sneaky man. He’s a wolf in a sheep’s clothing pretending to take care of two children (Leslie and Donnie) - who believe themselves abandoned by their parents - while in fact he’s selling them every now and then to solvent costumers. Nine years later Leslie and Donnie are living as street-kids, struggling with their future and trying to cope with their past. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="color: white; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;It’s hard to criticise a film that demonstrates such an honourable intention, which is symbolically trying to tell the story of 58.000 children abducted in the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;US&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt; every year (half of them becoming sexually assaulted). As Harris explained, his film is picturing their journey and tells their story of losing home and the fact of its irreversibility. However it’s simply the well-meaning of it which remains. Because in fact Damien Harris (writer and director) is losing himself in the same odyssey in which these children disappear. Maybe that’s the reason why his main characters remain merely faceless and sometimes a bit too glossy drafts, too. He is too exerted in following every single path his protagonists pass through. In consequence the movie is falling apart into too many semi-finished and careless elaborated stories just because of his lack of focus. He scratches on the surface, evoking just pathetic descriptions and flashy clichés - less authentic than expositional! That’s cruel and it gets even crueller as Arnold (an abused child himself) reveilles his emotional involvement with that story in the press conference.&lt;br /&gt;Unfortunately Harris’ film doesn’t work. He seems to be too involved himself and too dedicated to keep the distance to dig down deep where it would really hurt. Thanks to the organisation of the Berlinale team another screening was scheduled the same night. King Khan (his nickname in &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;st1:country-region&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;India&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;) enjoyed giving autographs (even on a babybelly!), hugs and kisses for about 30 minutes. The atmosphere in the cinema was euphoric and very entertaining, one could feel the excitement of the audience - lots of clapping, singing and screaming during the film made the screening into a real Indian experience. At the end everyone was dancing, including Dorothee Wenner (director of the Berlinale Talent Campus) who was trying very hard to get Khan to &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;st1:state&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;Berlin&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:state&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size: 100%;"&gt; for many years and finally succeeded. During the Q&amp;amp;A the Indian superstar confirmed that he will be coming back to &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;st1:state&gt;&lt;st1:place&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;Berlin&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;&lt;/st1:state&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size: 100%;"&gt; soon to shoot for his next film, mostly action scenes, since he will be taking over the European mafia in the story. His German fans prefer him as the romantic charming and dancing protagonist that he performs in most of his films, which is one of the reasons why he was part of a Berlinale Talent Campus Talk with the title: Love International. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="color: white; font-family: georgia; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;Alongside the stars in the program bad news from the Jury: Formerly eight international guests called to form the Competition Jury got reduced to six members only. Sandrine Bonnaire and Susanne Bier had to cancel their participation in the very last minute because of some unpredictable urgency for their own next film projects. Although &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;the audience became querulous &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;at the beginning because of some sound setting problems&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 100%;"&gt;, nobody despised the film or lost track of the haunting tension of the movie. Already nominated in eight categories for the Academy Award and just won the Golden Globe in the category of best actor. It’s a story about an evil and destructive man, who sacrifices everything he has till he has nothing more to loose, intensely played in a painfully bitter manner by Day Lewis being surrounded by dark angels. On one hand the Machiavellian hypocrite and bigot preacher Eli who follows his own path and mission to banish the devil from the so called lost souls. And on the other hand the black gold - named oil! Paul Thomas Anderson set up an allegoric parable about greed and the potency to wield power, which is as up to date as it was centuries ago. It’s a powerful painting wrapped in an impressive beautiful cinematography - deserted lands, digging men in muddy gorges and exploding oil rigs hotly burning the men faces and enlightening darksome nights till morning comes and the fire gets choked. The film is focussing on the invisible mazes in love and the classical ménage a trois story. When a man loves two woman and two women love the same man. But as the women build up a friendship things become not only complicated but deeply painful. So far a seductive and thrilling plot. Leo doesn’t know that his wife Sara does know and would never imagine his wife to creep in in Tuulis and Leos lover life manipulating their relationship and becoming friend with Tuuli his architecture student. The film starts dynamically, soaked in various shades of blue of a cold and melancholic winter landscape. But there is this feeling that something is not working, not reliable. Especially because the characters remain some drafts and close to the end things go far beyond. Especially when director Petri Kotwica starts playing games with the expectations of his audience, trying to catalyze his story with too preconceived thrilling elements of suspense. It seems he didn’t know where to end losing himself a bit along the road. Peccato! That leads to another point. Besides the focus on music and documentaries, striking is the presence of stories about children struggling with their destinies. Among them &lt;a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1169272/"&gt;Heart of Fire&lt;/a&gt; or music documentaries like “War Child”, a documentation about a Sudanese Hip Hop Star or the Filipino film “Tribu”.
